OCD is an Anxiety Disorder where the presence of obsessions and/or compulsions can cause significant distress or disruption to daily living. Our OCD group is a 8 session psychological intervention which aims:
- To help you gain a better understanding of OCD.
- To help you develop skills to better self-manage OCD.
- To help you improve your quality of life.
It uses the Gold standard in treatment of OCD which includes:
Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). ERP involves confronting obsessive thoughts and preventing compulsive rituals, repeated ERP breaks the link between the thought and the emotion.
CBT looks at thought processes in OCD, targets beliefs about obsessive thoughts, challenges ideas about danger and responsibility and uses strategies to help you become more aware of and gradually change misinterpretations and beliefs. You will begin to face your fears and learn new skills by attending the group and completing tasks at home. This will take time and commitment from you but the challenge is worth it if you want to break free from OCD!
Time: Tuesday 1pm-3pm
Duration: 8 weeks
